About David Whiteman

I bought my first camera in 1977 when I was in the U.S. Air Force. It was Canon AE-1. I shot landscapes and vacation photos, but I knew next to nothing about composition, aperture, exposure, or shutter speed, and I remember thinking that the camera couldn’t replicate what I was seeing with my own eyes. What started then as a hobby became my passion nearly 40 years later when I purchased my first digital camera. That camera, coupled with a growing understanding of the editing techniques in Photoshop®, allowed me to bring my photos to life in a way that matched my vision and imagination.

For me, photography has always been about learning. Learning by attending workshops. Learning by exploring the work of other photographers. Learning by trying new techniques. My quest for beautiful photos has taken me all over the country and all over the world, yet I always find endless possibilities right here where I live, in Centre County, Pennsylvania. Our environment is changing. Our world is changing. I consider it a privilege to use my camera to document and interpret the extraordinary beauty around us—images that years from now may no longer exist.
